Creating A Friendlier Work Space
If you run an office where your employees have their own cubicles, then it is a good idea for you to do what you can to turn those cubicles into personalized areas where everyone feels comfortable and where they can be productive. If you have ever walked into an office where all of the cubicles are small, decorated the same and basically cold, then you know how this can make the office have a bit of a depressing feel.
When employees work in an uninviting environment, they are much more likely to spend more time watching the clock than actually doing their work. Here are some things you can do around the office to liven up those cubicles and offer your employees a much better work environment.
Widen the spaces – Cubicles can be re-arranged and changed in order to give employees enough room to move around freely. If the current cubicles are very small, this is something that you should consider doing. You may have to rearrange some things and possibly move some equipment into a different area, but it will be worth it to make the employees more comfortable while they are at work.
Go with different colored cubicles – If it's feasible, you may want to consider giving the space some color by making the cubicles different colors. Offices, where all of the cubicles are a light gray, a blue or another color, can give the space a very boring and tiring feeling. Livening things up with color is a great way for you to help your employees feel a bit more awake while they are at work and to add a touch of extra cheer to the work environment.
Allow employees to decorate their cubicles – There are some companies that don't like the employees to do much decorating to their cubicles. You should consider doing the opposite of this and encouraging your employees to bring decorations and photos in from home to display around their cubicles. This can add to their sense of pride over their cubicle, make it feel homier to them and help them to feel less stressed out while they are on the clock.
Give everyone their own cubicle nameplate – You should also give each one of your employees their own personalized cubicle nameplates that they can display. This will help them to feel a sense of ownership over their cubicle, and that makes it all around more inviting for them.
