Because there are still some places where asbestos is used, for those same fire-resistant properties, it means that people who are going to be working with the material need to go through asbestos safety classes so that they know how to make their products safely. That can include what kind of personal protective equipment (PPE) people who are going to be handling the asbestos should wear. That PPE can include respirators and masks that are designed to be worn around asbestos. Those masks aren't the dust masks that can be found in any home improvement store because those masks don't stop the small fibers from getting into every place.
Asbestos has good properties, but those good properties are heavily outweighed by the problems that it can cause. Anyone who works with asbestos needs to know how to work around it safely.
